George and Lennie are two drifters who travel from place to place in search of work. When they arrive in California’s Salinas Valley, they find jobs on a ranch and begin dreaming of a better life. George promises Lennie that if they can avoid trouble, they may one day have a piece of land of their own and finally settle down.
But Lennie, kind-hearted and childlike, struggles to control his emotions and the immense strength he does not fully understand. Although he means no harm, others see him as a threat, and trouble soon follows. Eventually, even George may not be able to protect him from the consequences.
